The International EPD® system is a communication tool for the international markets
An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) aims to provide relevant, verified, and comparable information about a product’s environmental impact. An environmental declaration, as defined by ISO 14025, is a document containing quantified environmental performance parameters calculated according to Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology and adhering to the ISO 14040 series standards.
SUSTSTEEL®
Sustainability for Steel Construction Products Mark
The SustSteel project is promoted across Europe by Eurofer (European Confederation of Iron and Steel Industries). The certification is awarded only to companies active in the production of reinforcing bars that excel in sustainability. It confirms good governance through monitored activities. Certification is issued only after a recognised and impartial qualification process by a third party (BV). Specifically for Ferriera Valsabbia, the monitored activities included controlling emissions and using renewable resources, including both scrap metal and energy. The certification assesses emissions, including CO2, and water resource consumption.
Recycled Content UNI/PdR 88 (CAM Requirement)
Independent certification for recycled materials
The recycled content, either recovered or by-products, is certified by an independent certification Body in accordance with UNI/PdR 88, which verifies recycled or recovered content and/or by-products in products.

Environmental sustainability is both a commitment and a mission
At Ferriera Valsabbia, we are determined to continuously reduce our environmental impact to contribute to a more sustainable future. A key aspect of this mission is managing and reducing our Carbon Footprint (CFP), the overall carbon footprint of our activities. Carbon Footprint measures the environmental impact of human activities in terms of greenhouse gas emissions, such as carbon dioxide (CO₂), methane (CH₄), and nitrous oxide (N₂O), which contribute to climate change. Reducing our carbon footprint is essential to limit climate change and protect our planet for future generations. At Ferriera Valsabbia, we recognise the importance of this goal and actively work to reduce our Carbon Footprint in various ways:
Energy efficiency
We have implemented measures to optimise energy use at our facilities, using advanced technologies and efficient processes to reduce the total energy consumption of our operations.
Renewable energy sources
We are gradually transitioning to renewable energy sources to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. We invest in sustainable energy solutions, including solar and wind power, to support our operations. Our initiatives include:
- Self-generation from our own plants
- Purchase of Guarantees of Origin
- Power Purchase Agreements (PPA), with one already active
Awareness and Engagement
We actively involve our employees and stakeholders in our carbon emission reduction initiative, promoting awareness and education on sustainable practices and encouraging responsible actions at all levels of the organisation.
Our sustainability commitment goes beyond reducing our Carbon Footprint. We continue exploring new opportunities and innovative solutions to enhance our business practices and reduce the overall environmental impact of our operations. The successfully completed STATCOM project aims to improve the quality of electricity supplied to and drawn from the grid. This system addresses dynamic reactive power compensation, thereby enhancing overall “power quality.”
Additionally, we are committed to sharing our sustainability values with our business partners and the local community, collaborating to foster a corporate culture based on environmental and social responsibility.
